The Spotlight’s on Chinenye Ezurike

Chinenye Ezurike Miss Nigeria, U.S.A
21-year-old Chinenye Ezurike knows she is beautiful. Winning the crown at the Miss Nigeria, U.S.A., 2011 was not her first victory at a beauty pageant. At her school, Eastern Illinois University, U.S.A. where she majors in Family Consumer Science and minors in Business, she won the Miss Ebony, 2010. But winning beauty pageants is not all she does with her striking looks; she also uses it as a platform to make positive contributions to the society. She is an ambassador of the RED PUMP PROJECT and plans to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in Africa and the U.S.A., especially among women and youths. She is also the voice of the new campaign project by the Ministry of Care foundation, tagged “Africa Is Done Suffering”. The journey to the crown for Chinenye started early. “I was born in Lagos State, Nigeria, but I am from Imo state,” she says. “I grew up in Satellite town, Lagos and moved to the U.S.A. when I was 12 years old. I have always been into arts and stage performance. It was Miss Zambia, U.S.A. 2008 who approached me at school and gave me information about the pageant, which got me excited to embark on this journey.” Being on stage is something she loves and knows she was meant to do. “I love being on stage. I am not shy at all. When I have something to say or present, I do it with my whole heart.” Ever since she watched Agbani Darego win the Miss World pageant in 2001, she has believed that “anything is possible in life; you just have to go for it”. She also attributes her success to the support she received from her family. “My family means the world to me. I have the best pageant mom; she has been my back bone throughout this journey.”
