African Woman

Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong, popularly known as Becca, is an Afro-Pop/Rhythms&Blues singer from Ghana. She grew up in a musically inclined family. Her mother, father, and brothers all sang in the church choir. So it came as no surprise that she too joined the church choir as well as a singing group that composed their own music.

She got her big break when she was selected to be a contest in the reality television show called “TV3 Mentor” (Ghana’s American Idol) (Second Season) as part of the Ashanti Region team with Rose (Tico) and Sandy (Obolo). Although she didn’t win the competition, she became an acclaimed musician and a fan favorite from her group.

Her newest released video is for her track “African Woman.” As you probably guessed from the title, the song is an ode to the strength and character of the “African Woman”. The song is her third single from her forthcoming sophomore album. The video starts off with a quote “Diamonds get their character from the African Woman” and then transitions into scenes featuring Becca surrounded by landscape interspersed with clips featuring the daily hustles of a young African woman trying to survive in a very picturesque rural Ghana. This song is a favorite of mine and I especially love the fact that Becca decided to shoot the video in Akosombo, which has such a great view. Take a look at the video and see if you’re in agreement with me in saying that this is a quality song from Becca and a well-deserved ode to the African woman.
